Beans, Cheese, Canvas n Sweat

I got my copy of the newly released, ten year anniversary deluxe 2 disc edition of Rated R (Rated Rx) by Queens of the Stone Age today. Ten years... can't believe it... It took me back to when I was living in Edgware and totally fixated with MTV2 (M2 as it was then...) just waiting for a look at 'The Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret' promo video, which I'd seen with the TV muted whilst I was on the phone and couldn't wait to hear what it sounded like. That was my first exposure to Queens of the Stone Age, but from that day I've followed avidly snapping up every bootleg I can find.
The August Bank Holiday in 2000 saw me pack up a tent in my little Fiat and head to the Reading Festival where it seemed as though everyone and their dog was listening to Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park and everyone was looking for Rob... I never found out who Rob was...
A couple of days of sweaty canvas laden nights, Heinz beans with cheese and sandwiches made with green tomato ketchup... What made that short weekend worth it was the appearance of QotSA on stage, including a naked and extremely drunk Nick Oliveri...
So today when I peeled the cellophane from my new purchase, I was thrilled to find that the second disc on the Deluxe Edition of 'R' had tracks recorded from the set, and they sound as awesome now as they did back then...

If it ain’t broke…

I stayed up to watch the baseball last night in a vain hope that A-Rod would finally score his 600th Home-run ... he didn't and I subsequently overslept until an unlawful hour. Upon waking I discovered that not only was my back killing me, my body had gone into full rejection mode of being alive.
Then a succession of things to bring my frame of mind into being extremely pissed off began...
The flights I tried to book last night to get home in September had jumped from £36 to £107 ...
Ryan Air have ceased to operate from Västerås as of the end of October...
American Express and HSBC have cocked up my Direct Debits... Again...
I upgraded LoLyfe.com's theme only to realise it cocked up all the content...

The only good thing to happen today was that I watched a tremendously funny Korean flick called Jeon Woo Chi: The Taoist Wizard, and that made up for a lot of shit...

But for chrissakes... all this things could have been avoided if everyone had followed the Golden Rule:
If It Ain't Broke - Don't Fix It...

Just got an Email from Yankees.com to say that A-Rod hit the 600th homer... sheesh...

But I didn’t eat carrots?

After a lengthy trip, highlighted by an awesome night at the Jazz Cafe watching SOIL and 'PIMP' Sessions, I'm back in Sweden and almost immediately back to my old ways.
Friday night I nipped to the store with all good intentions of bagging some decent food, but opted for steaks and the ingredients for a carbonara...

Saturday was spent calling Huey down the porcelain telephone for either over indulgence or a major migraine - (as I both over indulged and woke up with a migraine it was hard to tell...).

Sunday was spent catching up on most of the weekends sporting events (Schumacher is still a twat and proved it big time on Sunday...), and today I pottered around the apartment telling myself I was keeping busy.
I did venture out into the world at one point to pick up some post and look at TV's I couldn't afford and then it was back to the love of my lyfe... yes, the internet and Japanese movies...

Impasse

I can't remember exactly when it was that I first had the feeling that there was a book (or many books) inside me trying to get out, but I think the first thoughts came at a very young age. I seem to recall being sick, I had either mumps or measles and I was in my parents bed writing a story. It was about a teddy bear that found a secret passage to a fantasy land - I think. It was such a long time ago that all I can remember with real clarity is the title: Teddy's Big Adventure.
That story came to me one day, early in the morning and I wrote non stop until it was done. I even illustrated it.
The reason I'm blogging about this now is this: At that young age your creative juices flow extremely well, they don't hold up for anything. Every idea you have is awesome! You've not heard of plot block or the impasse that comes with too much nothing going on in the story in front of you...

I can see Gandalf, he's right in front of me, "You shall not pass!"

Bastard.

Pinch Punch…

I woke up from a series of horrible nightmares this morning. I'm not sure what brought them on but they really fucked with my head and I was a zombie until about midday. I snapped out of it when I realised that I'd got the laundry booked at my old building and that I'd promised to help out the Fam with some computer issues. The apartment is coming along nicely, the floor is down in all rooms now and the cupboards are up too. It's beginning to take shape.
I took the first four of these photo's the other day, it was only a fleeting visit to the apartment before I realised I wasn't feeling too well - I ended up spending the rest of the day in bed with a fever...

The last three pictures are from today. When I got to my apartment I found that they had replaced the hallway cupboard, the bathroom cupboards are in and so is the bedroom wardrobe.

Yesterday was a celebratory day here in Sweden. The last of April is the day that bonfires are burnt to, some say, get rid of the Easter Witches, making sure that they all bugger off to Blåkulla and not seduce the little 'uns with their sweeties... it's an old tale and rather disturbing too, but it does bring about a sense of Spring as all the BBQ's are dusted off and the smell of flaming flesh engulfs the air, along with the occasional firework - nothing like Diwali mind you, but still festive. However, the day (also known as Walpurgis Night) brings with it the dread of Swedes embarking on their traditional drunken mayhem, and the news was unfortunately full of it. Including a snippet about a hundred or so that were kicked out of Denmark for rowdy behaviour and arrested on their arrival back in Sweden... Pinch-Punch... although a lot of Swedes will have you believe that this is a normal Friday night out for them, and even more normal for Helsingør in Denmark where it all kicked off...
I myself refrained from the evenings shenanigans (for obvious reasons) and watched a movie instead. Although I did treat myself to a low alcohol beer... yum!

Nice New Cupboards

Here's a better shot of the black tiles in the bathroom, now with added grouting!! And also the new kitchen cupboard shells are being installed. Nice black worktops too...

Tiled

I'm pleasantly surprised to find that my bathroom has been tiled today, and not just the bath end either - they have tiled the whole room. Wasn't expecting that. I'm really glad I went with the black tiles for the shower wall, looks cool...

The bedroom wardrobe has also been removed and to my dismay the workmen have broken a window blind in that room. They've also been busy replacing all the light fittings and plug sockets and again with dismay I note that not a lot of care has been taken in doing so. I hate to write a letter of complaint whilst they are busy doing the work - there's that episode of The IT Crowd where the builder pisses in the bathtub that comes to mind - so I'll wait a bit before I mention anything...

By The Lake

Whilst taking my daily walk today, I couldn't help but notice that the water on the lake was so still that it looked eerily wrong...

Lake Malaren

Lake Malaren

The mirror-like surface was like nothing I'd seen whilst walking this route these past few years. Made a nice picture though... quality is iPhone so not the best...

Floored

The floor in the kitchen is down, this picture doesn't do it much justice but I'm really pleased with it. Mainly because it won't show the dirt...
